Tick Control In Woodbridge, VA

Tick Protection For Your Woodbridge, VA Yard

When you were growing up, you probably didn’t spend much time thinking about ticks. You might not have even known they existed. You could spend time outside without worrying about coming back inside with an unwanted hitchhiker attached to your skin. Unfortunately, times have changed, and ticks are now a major problem in Woodbridge and the surrounding areas.
If they were simply a nuisance pest that could bite you without further problems, ticks wouldn’t be much of an issue. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Ticks are known to spread various dangerous diseases, including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, babesiosis, and anaplasmosis. It has even recently been discovered that certain tick species can cause people to develop an allergy to red meat in rare instances.

Tick Control From Bluebird Pest Solutions

Our tick control service creates a protective barrier against ticks. These small pests are often found in the transition areas between lawns and wooded areas, so treating these areas allows us to greatly reduce the populations on your property and its surrounding areas.
We use a backpack fogger to treat along the perimeter of your property. Our all-natural solution is effective against ticks but safe for your family and the environment. We’ll return to your property every four weeks to re-treat it to keep your lawn free of ticks during their active months. This treatment is available from mid-March through mid-October.

Protecting yourself and your family from ticks requires you to be proactive, both at home and when you go out. Whenever you spend time outdoors, you must check yourself over afterward to make sure you don’t have any ticks on you. It’s also wise to wear bug spray with DEET and to wear long pants and sleeves if you know you’ll be in wooded or grassy areas.

However, when you’re spending time at home, you probably don’t want to have to change clothes every time you go outside or worry about your kids playing in your own yard. That’s where Bluebird Pest Solutions comes in. We offer tick control services to protect your property from dangerous ticks so that you can spend time outside without worrying.

Ticks In Woodbridge, VA

Have you started seeing ticks around your property, but are unsure what you’re dealing with? Bluebird is here to help. The three most common ticks found around Woodbridge and the surrounding areas are the Blacklegged tick, the Lone Star tick, and the American dog tick.

Blacklegged Ticks

Blacklegged ticks are the most commonly-occurring tick found in Virginia. Adults measure about 1/2 inch in length from front leg to hind leg, with fat, thin bodies that measure about 1/4 inch. Females are black toward the front with bulbous orange backsides, while males are slightly smaller with solid black coloration across their entire bodies.

While they spread a number of diseases including anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and more, blacklegged ticks are the most notorious tick species because they are the ones primarily responsible for spreading Lyme disease. This makes them a huge concern for homeowners with outdoor dogs or cats that could come into contact with them.

Lone Star Ticks

Lone Star ticks are slightly larger than blacklegged ticks, typically growing to about 1/3 inch in length but with fatter, more bulbous abdomens. Lone Star ticks are primarily responsible for spreading the diseases ehrlichiosis and tularemia.

Lone Star ticks are identified by the single white dot on their backs, resembling – you guessed it – a lone star. These are most prominently seen on the females of the species. Typically, males instead have a white striped pattern across their sides and backs instead of the single dot. The rest of their bodies are a solid brown coloration.

American Dog Ticks

The largest native tick species found in Virginia, American dog ticks measure almost half an inch in length with their bodies alone, with limbs that stretch their total length even further. They are primarily brown in coloration with white markings. While males are slightly smaller in size, they can be differentiated by the white markings that spread across their entire body, while females only have white markings close around their heads, with solid brown abdomens.

While adults are known to spread tularemia, American dog ticks are primarily responsible for spreading Rocky Mountain spotted fever. As their name suggests, they are most commonly found on pets that have spent time outdoors – but they love cats just as much as dogs!
